We got a dehumidifier as our house doesn't have great ventilation and we tend to steam veg when cooking abd that doesn't help. After a lot of research we got one as it was meant to be quiet so we could leave it on. Yes it really is quiet if you have earplugs and ear defenders on! There is no way you could have it on at night even when it is in a different room you can hear it. I think the people who reviewed and those that write the data sheet all have hearing aid batteries on subscription.

Same for hotel air-con systems - can they be noisier?

I absolutely love tunder and usually get outside in the jard to watch it. One day tho it smached into a house Infront of me like 50meters away. I never ever heard such a loud bang, ears were ringing I'm jumping of insane adrenaline shock. My skin tingled necause of static electricity. It blew a couple tiles of the roof. Holy damm nature is scary. But I wish I could relive it

Yes, something majestic about it. We were just arriving in Bend, Oregon and the storm had just started - was dark and sinister and could easily been one of those you see in films. Hirricans are really boring, just a lot of rain and wind. We caught hurricane Isabel when in North Carolina. Appropriate give my wife's name is Isobel!

Stunning day today, warm but not too hot and clear skies. Went to Culross Palace which was built in 1599. Interesting place.

The bloke who built the palace made his money from coal. Originally monks from the nearby abbey got the coal from a surface mine but that eventually dried up. Then George Bruce came along and using new mining techniques bought the rights from the monks and started digging. The mine was located in a hole at the end of the pier in the first pic (and on the left in the second one) below and was protected by a large wall to avoid flooding from the tidal river. A few other pics from around the town.

What a charming, unique and fascinating place... it's like stepping back in time.
I would really love to explore the Palace as well as its picturesque surroundings.
Thank you, Glen, for sharing these intriguing pictures with us.

It had gradually become disused and then abandoned. The National Trust for Scotland was formed in 1931 and one of the first purchases was Culross Palace for about £120. They also purchased other house properties in the town. This stopped the proposal to demolish the whole town to build a housing estate. Many of the properties use roof tiles from European countries as they were used as ballast for ships coming to collect the coal and salt which gives it a different appearance to the slate used on most roofs at the time.

A few weeks ago, a zoo got flooded.

Now a theme park.

I hope everyone is OK over on the mainland. Truly tragic scenes.

Just squeezing in a view from today. An ISS pass. Too often miss them because of the weather but tonight was just right. Image taken facing south using the Night Cap app in ISS mode on an iPhone SE. Have adjusted exposure etc. and cropped it a bit to remove street lights. Was about a 4 minute exposure. No they haven't got Christmas lights on it is just the roof edging with some slight camera movement.

They look really good. We have a few peppers growing on old plants from last year. Need to get some chilli seeds and try again next year. Got some feed for them and that helped a lot.

Mr Blackbird had been away for a few days and turned up yesterday evening looking like he had been on a bender for that time. Must have visited the bird bath as looks better today!
