Saw this today. Smithsonian Open Access (link at the bottom) is the use of any image, 3D scan and other stuff that is wholly owned by the Smithsonian museum(s) in Washington DC (i think - they may have other sites). The images and information are free to use by anyone. As fa as I can see you don’t have to be a US citizen either. Just thought this may be of use to anyone with kids but anyone who needs images or 3D scans etc.
Would definitely recommend Washington DC as a destination as there is so much to see that is free. Expensive to stay in the city but if stay further out it is easy to drive in and park at the station where yo get get the hop on/off bus. My favourites are:
