Yes police of several countries including Finland uses MP5 when they are going against guy with gun. Cop would be my 2nd try too. Looks like SMG:s are nowadays mostly police weapons, after WW2 assault rifles replaced them. They are powerful enough take out not armored targets, compact size makes them easy to handle in houses etc narrow places. And bullets don't go trough and cause so much danger/damage to people/stuff behind target.
