With 11 days to go we finally have a plan. Probably on Plan X or Y by now but if need to start getting materials for that ark.... Found really nice house to rent but wasn't suitable as the sofa was a green colour!! 
Looked at apartments near the German border with Austria - most had pictures with snow in. Not surprising given many areas are ski resorts! Too high a risk of it being cold or snowing!!
So finally booked ferry to Amsterdam, then Heidelburg for a week (near a winery), then on to south Belgium (near brewery), and then on to Anwerp area (staying in a brewery) and then back on the ferry and home! So you have been warned!
