OK, I don't need one of these but if I had a spare £15,999.99 (plus about £5,000 for a new camera body) I would get one just for the smug look you can give when you whip it out in a how big is your lens contest. This is really is just pure camera porn - you can see the grins on the guys face as he whips it out of the box!

i am not a fan of ultra tele lenses (is that correct spelling ^^ camera technique is strange it got popular in different countries and the camera language seem to have developed for each countryitself - different from computational engineering)

but if you want to make some sport photos or animals and stuff like that it must be really nice :D

how much light do you need then ? ^^

As it is 2.8 throughout the zoom you can getaway with little light. Combined with some of the sensors that are around now you can go high with the ISO and not get too much noise. The current Nikon and Canon bodies can get you a decent picture in near darkness. I think the Sigma is one of those devices built to prove that you can make such a thing! To be honest I'm not sure what you would really use it for as it isn't that practical because of the weight or size. Canon had a made to order 1200mm lens and they only built a few each year - something that the US military and Feds used that were very rare and VERY expensive - [video=youtube;U0E-nZOlY_k]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0E-nZOlY_k[/video].

The trouble is with most long lenses is that you need to mount them on a tripod with a gimbal to give you any kind of flexibility and enable you to get something that is quite sharp. My favourite lens is the 70-200mm f2.8 zoom which can get you close to something but is still quite practical to hand hold if you have to. Not something you want around your neck for too long though.
