We have been getting a few thing nibbling at plants in the garden. Didn't want to use pesticides but did want to deter cats, foxes, mice, squirrels from some bits of the garden. Saw this recipe and it seems to work. You do need to respray the area after rain but it is environmentally friendly.
1l boiling water and add
3 heaped desert spoons of pepper
3 heaped desert spoons of garlic powder
3 heaped desert spoons of paprika
3 heaped desert spoons of cayenne pepper
few drops of vegetable oil
Stir together and allow to cool.
Once cool strain out the solids and put that in an old spray bottle and use it where needed. The oil just make it stick to where you are spraying it better.
Hopefully, if you are following along you haven't thrown away the solids. That makes a rather good rub for meats, tofu, Quorn etc. The mixture before straining (or afterwards) makes a good marinade medium too.
Wash your hands after making it as it can be a little bit stingy on delicate parts.
